Dumpling pizza (Dumplizza)

if dumpling was on a pizza

The inspiration behind this pizza is combining my favourite childhood chilli oil dumplings with pizza!

It took me a while to figure out how to incorporate dumpling into a pizza..but I think I finally figured it out.

On the base of this pizza is actually Chinese scallion pancake dough. It’s easier to make than pizza dough, and ties into the Asian fusion theme.

If you love fusion pizza flavours, this one’s for you!

the pizza base (scallion pancake)

Honestly, I’m too scared to make actual pizza dough. Because there’s hydration rules, proofing and oven baking techniques that need to be done right to taste good.

So I resorted to one of my favourite Chinese foods, Chinese scallion pancake. You can use my scallion pancake recipe

The base of this pizza is made of my simple scallion pancake dough. Quite funnily this also is the same dough for my dumplings. I guess it’s very fitting for the theme?

my dumpling pizza

dumpling crust!

I added 4 whole dumplings onto the pizza crust to make…dumpling crust!

Then I folded in the edges of the scallion pancake dough to create this four leaf clover shape.

the pizza toppings

You can go to town with the pizza toppings depending on what you like.

I kept this dumpling themed, so I actually added in my dumpling mince as a topping.

Then I added mozzarella cheese, spring onions, sesame seeds and chilli oil!

The sauce base is a mix of ketchup and hoisin and soy sauce.

the packaging design

For the packaging, I used a kraft pizza box and drew some dumpling doodles on it.

I then used red checkered food paper to line the box.

What do you think?
