The inspiration
This is my own take on Huntrix’s Zoey’s playful hamburger instant noodle from the Netflix hit, K-pop Demon Hunters!
This homemade instant noodle cup features a burger patty, onions, cheese and tomatoes.
I was thinking to myself, what soup base should this instant noodle have?
Taking inspiration from the burger ingredients, I decided to make a beef and tomato soup base! This way, the flavours would be aligned with the toppings.
I must say, this instant noodle is super fun and easy to make! The flavours surprisingly go well together, it reminds me of those viral ramen hacks where you add a slice of cheese to instant noodles.
Watch how I made this ramen, while I sing 'Golden'
In case you’re wondering, yes, that is me singing!
I must say though, ‘Golden’ is way too difficult to sing. So it’s not perfect, but I tried my best. Hope you liked it anyway!
Anyway, back to cooking!
Tips and tricks
This instant noodle recipe is simple – but there are some tips I wanted to share with you:
- The broth: when you’re making the sauce for the broth, make sure to add lots of flavour to it and if you like your food more savoury, add enough seasoning! The reason is because once you add in hot boiling water, and combined with the bland udon noodles, it will dilute the broth packet.
- The udon noodles: I use store bought instant udon packets, rather than the frozen ones. Because this is an instant noodle recipe, I use instant udon packets that you can add boiling water to. I like to microwave the udon noodles in hot water for about 1 minute (at 30 second intervals) to get it softer. I prefer them soft! But if you’re making these noodles for dinner and don’t need it to be ‘instant’, you can definitely use frozen japanese udon. I find that frozen udon tastes much better than the instant packet ones, because it is more bouncy and chewy.
The packaging
I get a lot of comments asking where I get my instant noodle cup packaging from.
The short answer? It’s a kraft soup container you can get from Amazon. It’s leak proof because, well, it’s a soup container.
I like to use coloured markers to draw different cup designs, as you can see!
I highly recommend giving this a go if you’re feeling creative. It really elevates the ‘instant noodle’ experience!
